About Me

Griff Outlaw- Expert Crafter of Handmade Furniture

My woodworking passion and skills began to take shape when I was a young man; at first working alongside my dad as he worked on projects, which eventually gave me the confidence to venture out to pursue and refine the craft of furniture making.

For more than 20 years, woodworking was an enjoyable hobby and an escape from  my “9-5” job as a mechanical engineer at the renowned Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, where I worked on the development of the “new” Alvin Submarine (the “old” Alvin is best known from the movie Titanic). Throughout those years I received and fulfilled many requests for custom pieces to be made, and even designed and built a line of furniture reminiscent of classical forms found in engineered structures. The ‘Natural Bridge Collection’ links the traditional and contemporary with a graceful elegance and is made with Eastern Wild cherry and Black Walnut.  Furthermore, I have designed a collection of overwhelmingly popular cutting boards, that add a custom and unique touch to many homes.

Three years ago I decided to follow my dream and dedicated myself full-time to keeping the woodworking tradition alive while still enjoying my love for engineering.  I enjoy the challenge of taking a client’s specific needs and requirements and incorporating those needs into a functional and artistic design that reflects their aesthetic and lifestyle. I build each piece in a 3-D model space; fine tuning the proportions and figuring out how everything will be joined, as well as its function.  3-D renderings also provides you, the client, with visualization of the piece. Whether using locally harvested woods, exotics or reclaimed, all wood is chosen for the best fit and color. My goal is to make a lasting contribution to the world of fine hand-made woodworking by creating one-of –a-kind, heirloom quality pieces that you and your family can enjoy for years to come.

MADE IN THE USA - KEEP THE WOODWORKING TRADITION ALIVE!
